Gatti in casa nostra ce ne sono sempre stati, fin da quando, sia Alfio sia io eravamo molto piccoli. Siamo cresciuti con loro, abbiamo imparato ad amarli, a rispettarli, a prendercene cura, a trascorrere dei momenti molto piacevoli con loro. Erano tutti gatti soriani, di provenienza varia: di uno zio, di un vicino, di un amico che aveva dei micini da regalare.
Poi, quando è iniziata la nostra vita insieme, ci è sembrato naturale aprire la casa ad una di loro: una bellissima gatta soriana grigia, tigrata, dal pelo semilungo.
In questi lunghi anni abbiamo regolarmente visitato mostre feline e seguito l’evoluzione delle varie razze, ammirando in particolar modo i gatti norvegesi e i Maine Coon; poi Alfio ha scoperto l’esistenza del gatto siberiano! Si è subito innamorato del loro sguardo, della forma della loro testa, del mantello così folto, necessario alla vita in ambienti dalle temperature estremamente rigide. Infine, la fulminazione: vista la foto di Eleo-Gregorio (il primo gatto siberiano introdotto in Europa, a cui sia stato attribuito il titolo di Campione Mondiale), non ci sono stati più dubbi! E così, abbiamo “adottato” anche noi una splendida micia siberiana e pian pianino pensato a far partire un allevamento tutto nostro, dal nome IZ SIBIR, che significa “originario della Siberia”.
Ora cerchiamo di selezionare con attenzione i nostri gatti, studiando i pedigree dei “candidati riproduttori” e tenendo ben presenti i risultati degli studi genetici relativi ai gatti. Abbiamo scelto di partire da un accoppiamento della nostra gatta, che è una brown tortie tabby mackerel, con un brown tabby, essendo questo il colore base del gatto siberiano, per ottenere dei cuccioli brown tabby.
Questa è la linea di colore che abbiamo scelto di adottare nel nostro allevamento, coscienti del fatto che le sorprese in genetica possono dare dei risultati a volte sorprendenti.
Alleviamo i nostri gatti in casa, a contatto diretto con la nostra famiglia, dedicando loro parecchie ore, e condividendo questa esperienza anche con i nostri figli che pure li accudiscono. Questo per rendere i nostri cuccioli estremamente affettuosi e socievoli, pur rispettandone l’identità. Naturalmente curiamo molto l’alimentazione e il loro stato di salute: sono seguiti dal nostro veterinario di fiducia e vengono vaccinati regolarmente.
Sono proprio come dei figli per noi e prima di separarcene vogliamo essere sicuri che le famiglie adottive siano pronte ad accogliere e crescere uno dei nostri cuccioli nel migliore dei modi; naturalmente restiamo a loro completa disposizione per informazioni e assistenza anche dopo l’adozione.
Speriamo di poter trasmettere e condividere il nostro amore per questa particolare razza anche a chi ancora li conosce poco o non li conosce affatto.


ABOUT US

There have always been cats in our home since both Alfio and I were small children. We both grew up with them, we learnt to love them, to respect them, to take care of them, to spend wonderful moments with them. They were all ordinary cats, coming from different places: an uncle’s home, a neighbour’s, a friend’s, from somebody who would give it to us as a precious gift.
Then, when we started our life together, it was pretty obvious to open our home to a cat: she was an ordinary brown tabby with a wonderful semi-long coat.
In the past two decades we have regularly visited cat shows and kept our eyes wide open on the evolution of Norwegian Cats and Main Coons up to when Alfio discovered the existence of Siberian Cats!
He immediately fell for them! They have magnificent eyes, a wonderful round head, a fantastic coat that allows them to live in freezing areas such as Siberia. To make a long story short, when my husband saw a picture of Eolo Gregorio (the first Siberian cat introduced in Europe to win the title of World Champion), he made up his mind: we were going to adopt our first Siberian! After living with her for two years, we decided we were going to have our own cattery, which we called IZ SIBIR, i.e. coming from Siberia.
We intend to carefully select our cats by studying their pedigree as well as genetic studies on cats breeding. To start with, we mated our brown tortie tabby mackerel Queen with a brown tabby King.
The reason for this choice lies in the fact that brown tabby is the basic colour for Siberians and we hoped to have brown tabby kittens. This is the aim we would like to achieve in our cattery; of course, we are aware that both nature and genetics produce wonderful surprises!
Our cats are raised exclusively in our home, “underfoot”. Being a small cattery, producing one or two litters at a given time helps the socialization of each individual kitten and undeniably contributes to their people-loving personalities. Our two sons are daily involved in this activity, so they learn how to love and to take care of them.
Our cats are given high quality food and they are regularly seen and vaccinated by a veterinarian.
They are our babies and before leaving the cattery, we try to make sure that the adoptive families will give them all the love and care they deserve. These families can rely on us for any further assistance or enquiries they might have.
We hope we can share our love for this magnificent race with all those people who know little or nothing about them.
